Welcome – A Human Approach for a Business Outcome

Welcome to our first blog!

I hope everyone had a good Summer and is enjoying the Autumn. The nights are drawing in and it is getting colder, but I love this time of the year as it reminds me of new beginnings, new projects and new dreams so I thought it’s the perfect time to make my dream a reality! It’s also a time for my quest to buy the perfect winter coat which I have always failed in and let’s not even bother to talk about the rain!

I’ve had a very busy couple of months.  I have been occupied setting up my company, Eastvilles – thinking of a business name, setting up the company, working on my website, having some professional photos taken etc.

Setting up Eastvilles has been challenging but enjoyable.  For example, thinking of a business name was difficult and took a few weeks to finalise– it felt as if every word from the English dictionary had already been taken! That includes all those words written backwards! I wanted a name that was short, unique and had a positive meaning.  I travelled back in time to my childhood and remembered Eastville Park…

I managed to squeeze in a holiday to Italy – the land of romance and style – I took photos of anything I found fascinating and they gave me so many ideas for the website. Milan has some great cafés (but they’re expensive!) and is, of course, one of the fashion capitals of the world.

These were what gave me some great ideas for my website such as the colour scheme, what to wear for the professional photos and how to co-ordinate the colours and pictures on the website.  I needed a lot of support when it came to the photographs because I rarely venture into the world of ‘The Selfie’ but the photographer said I was a natural! He also said I should consider a modelling career –I’m not convinced he was being serious though!

I also had the opportunity to attend the annual Technology Lawyer conference run by the SCL to prepare for the upcoming developments and innovations in Technology to practice tech law in the 2020s.  Throughout the day there were some good discussions such as the emergence of 5G, ethics of data, AI and competition law principles concerning big tech companies.   It’s so important to keep up to date with the law so that I can provide a first-class service to my clients. I also had the opportunity to connect with so many people and hear their views about tech and how in certain aspects it’s surpassing the law and I enjoyed talking to them about myself, my journey to this point and my values for Eastvilles.

That brings me to Eastvilles’ values.  This is something I spent a lot of time thinking about when I first thought about setting up my own Company. Why did I want to set up Eastvilles?  What would be my value proposition?  What will make me different?  I knew that I did not want to take the conveyor belt approach and churn out a company that did not fully meet my requirements or standards. I came up with three words: Personal. Pragmatic. Precise.  Eastvilles’ values are represented by these three words.   I want to provide services that are PERSONAL to each client in a PRAGMATIC way and ensure everything is as PRECISE as possible. I want Eastvilles to be the best not just in terms of the services we provide for our clients but also for being human, which is why you will see a lot of real people on the website. Eastvilles is a company that has ‘a human approach for a business outcome’.

So, what can you expect from this blog? We are hoping to share any developments in the service areas we cover, people we meet, places we visit and anything else we think you may be interested to read about.  The blog will be written by me and other people associated with Eastvilles.

Lastly, I have been humbled by the support from the people I have met so far on this journey.  There are so many creative and helpful people out there and I’m very fortunate Eastvilles has allowed me to meet them – I have been struck by their support and creativity to help me set up Eastvilles and I’m most grateful for their contribution.

I hope you enjoyed reading our first blog.
